Playground for disabled children opens

Reading's first playground for disabled children is now up and running.

Nearly £75,000 has been used to transform the existing play area at Christchurch Meadows.

The playground now has a boat swing with seats for disabled toddlers and an interactive structure.

Tom Stanway, Lead Councillor for Culture and Sport, said: "I am delighted we have been able to enhance the equipment in Christchurch Meadow.

"It is a place where mothers can chat knowing their children can play in safety, and the new range of equipment is also designed for children with disabilities to be able to play safely as well. This has been a great scheme and we should extend our thanks to the parks team for implementing before the summer holidays so the children can have as much fun outdoors as possible."
