Mel Bloor

Full name: Melanie Ann Bloor

Job Title: Head of News

Birthday: 13th October

Starsign: Libra

How long have you been a journalist and how did you get into it? I've been a journalist for 6 years. After gaining a degree in Broadcast Journalism, I started doing voluntary shifts at Reading College radio until I was good enough to actually get paid for doing it!

What's the best bit about your job? I find it a real privilege bringing the people of Reading their news and because I've grown up here, I really care about the town and what happens in it. The other bit I like is getting to interview the stars such as Sir Bob Geldof, Joanna Lumley, Charlotte Church and of course Sir Cliff Richard!

What's the worst bit about your job? Getting up at 4.15am! But then I finish at 1pm and in the Summer I can go home and sunbathe all afternoon!

What's the most memorable story you have covered? I had to report from the scene of the Ufton Nervet rail crash back in 2004. I had never covered anything like that before and found it really hard to stay composed. The London Bombings were also very hard to cover.

Other than reading the news, what else do you do? We prepare and write our own news at Reading 107, so I spend my time during bulletins getting them together, carrying out interviews and editing them as well as writing the scripts. Contrary to what most people think, I don't just sit here doing my nails or checking facebook all hour!

If you weren't on the radio, what job would you do? I would like to be involved in the music industry maybe as a producer.

What do you like doing when you are not at work? I'm trying to get fit so go running a couple of times a week and workout on my Wii Fit. I also enjoy walking my Chihuahua who's called Mimi.

Where did you go to school and were you naughty? Little Heath in Tilehurst. Erm, I was a little bit naughty I'm afraid but I still got 9 GCSEs grades A-C so there!

First job - and would you do it again? Part-time in a cafe whilst I was doing my A-levels at Reading College. No I would never do it again - I used to go home stinking of chip fat!

What does the last text message you received say? From Stew in our Sales Office in reply to my text asking if he knew his car windscreen was smashed in......"Oh yeah, I drove into the barrier on Friday"!!!

Last album you bought: Beyonce - I am

Do you have any embarrassing albums in your collection at home? Loads and I'm proud! I love all types of music from Celine Dion to R n B.

Favourite place to eat? As my favourite food is cheeseburgers, I would have to say either Old Orleans in The Oracle or TGI Friday's in Caversham.

Favourite pub? Pitcher and Piano or Revolution. Quite like Sahara too.
