THE PRIDE OF READING AWARDS

The Pride of Reading is back, celebrating bravery, generosity and people who go that extra mile in our town. As before, Reading 107 (and Chris Tarrant) will be at the ceremony dishing out the awards to these very special people in November!

Sponsors of the 2010 Pride of Reading Awards already include, The Oracle Shopping and Leisure Centre, Green Park, Yell, Broad St Mall, Kyocera, Reading 107fm, Waitrose, Hilton and Babcock.

There's a wide variety of categories for you to to nominate deserving people:

999 - Services personnel (fire, police, paramedics etc) who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Cultural Contribution - Somebody who has enriched the cultural life of Reading. They may have set up or run an arts group, organised an event, or managed a vibrant venue.

Restaurant of the Year - Sponsor: The Oracle. This award will be judged by celebrity chefs Antony Worrall Thompson and Daniel Galmiche on food and services.

Local Hero - Sponsor: Waitrose. Someone who, through a special act of kindness or bravery, has made a positive difference to their community.

Community Champion - Sponsor: Broad St Mall. Someone who works tirelessly in their community as an individual, in the voluntary sector, as a carer, for a community group or in public service who devotes their time for others.

Business in Action - Sponsor: Kyocera. Companies, large or small, who get involved in community work. There are two awards for firms with under 50 and over 50 employees.

Young Person of the Year - Sponsor: Reading 107fm. Recognising the contribution to the community of someone under 18.

Healthy Lifestyle - Sponsor: Green Park. A firm, organisation or school, which promotes healthy living.

Environmental Project - Sponsor: Babcock. A school, organisation or charity, which has started an innovative eco-friendly project.

Employee of the Year - Sponsor: Hilton An employee who goes the extra mile for their firm or for their customer.

Child of Courage - Sponsor: London Irish - The town's bravest youngster. There are many times when youngsters' courage shines through. Some become heroic lifesavers, others demonstrate courage through battling illness or other difficult circumstances. We want to hear about these amazing under 16-year-olds.

Health Worker/Team of the Year - Sponsor: M&S Simply Food - From nurses to hospital porters, GPs to special care staff, we want to hear about the health professional or team that takes caring to an extra level.

Entrepreneur of the Year - Sponsor: Yell - focusing on Enterprise/Entrepreneurship in Reading.
