About Joff Hopkins

Joff Hopkins wakes up Reading and Wokingham every Sunday from 6am... he's also the chap who deputises for other presenters when they disappear off on holiday or are skiving off sick.

Quickfire Q&A

Full name: Jonathan David Hopkins - but everyone apart from my nan calls me Joff

Birthday: 30th July

Starsign: Leo - rrawwrr.

Nickname at school: Joff - and it's stuck!

Tell us something we didn’t know about you: I'm vegetarian, and I've never seen a 'Jaws' film

Where did you go to school and were you naughty? I moved to Reading in 2001 from Kent, where I went to the same school as Bill Wyman and Carey Blyton (who composed 'Bananas In Pyjamas'). I was a good lad, but my friends were a bit more 'daring' - one of them brought in a car battery once and created a lot of sparks and smoke in English lessons. Another chap in my form enjoyed spraying deodorant over a naked flame, creating some sort of blow-torch. Don't try this at home!

First job – and would you do it again? I actually did two jobs at once when I turned 16 - I worked in the stock room at Argos (over Christmas - never again!), and on checkouts and trolleys at Waitrose. I've got a head for numbers, and will always remember the barcode number for Green Celery - it never scanned properly - 5000169030257. Yes, yes, saddo.

While the music’s playing, what do you do? Checking emails, answering phone calls, and singing along to the music!

What do you get up to outside of work? I love to eat and drink out with friends - Reading and Wokingham's blessed with some great places for that - failing that, you'll find me at home watching DVDs or playing on the computer.

Do you have any embarrassing albums in your collection at home? Does The Party Album by Black Lace count?

Favourite place to eat? Cafe Iguana in St. Mary's Butts, or Ben's Thai on the canal by the Prudential

Favourite pub? Land's End in Charvil - right by the ford!

Reading’s best-kept secret? The path down the side of the Kennet & Avon Canal between Reading and the Madejski Stadium. It's really lovely - some of the houses in Whitley back onto the canal and they have their own boats and everything!
