Recipe for Maltesers and Red Bull Mel's Muffins

Unfortunately, my Maltesers and Red Bull flavoured muffins were out-voted by Lemon Sensation, thanks though to Breakfast Club listener Wendie who sent in the recipe so you can make them at home!

Mel's Maltesers and Red Bull Muffins (makes 18 muffins)

500g butter or Spread, 500g sugar, 550g self raising flour, 2 eggs whisked, 1 large bag Maltesers gently crushed and 1 can of Red Bull.

Pre heat oven to 160, 140 fan, gas mark 6.

1) Cream butter and sugar untill light and fluffy with electric wisk.

2) Slowly add eggs and 3/4 can of red bull whisking at high speed (only add small amounts at a time otherwise mixture will curdle).

3) Add maltesers

4) Fold in flour a bit at a time, when all the flour has been folded in whisk again at high speed for about 3 mins. The mixture will be thinner than normal cake mix.

5) Divide mixture between 18 muffin cases and bake in oven for approx 40 mins untill a knife comes out clean.

6) When slightly cool make a small slit in the top of each muffin and pour a little extra red bull on the top of each muffin.

Enjoy!

Ten things you never knew about Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's sudden and shocking death robbed the world of one of its greatest ever popstars last week. His passing means that many mysteries and tabloid rumours surrounding MJ's bizarre behaviour will probably forever remain unanswered. However, there are still plenty of unusual facts about the 'Thriller' singer that you probably hadn't heard about. Keep reading for ten intriguing tidbits we unearthed about the King Of Pop.

1. Michael Jackson's hit single 'Bad' was originally going to be a duet with fellow '80s pop icon Prince. The tabloid press often described the pair as rivals and Jackson apparently wanted to play on that up until the song's release. Prince said later that he turned the offer down because he knew it "would be a hit without [him] on it".

2. When he was in the Jackson 5, little Michael appeared on the US equivalent of Blind Date - The Dating Game. The young popstar got to ask the questions and was allowed to pick a date from three "bachelorettes". Sadly, love never blossomed.

3. Jackson's incredible slant/lean in the 'Smooth Criminal' video is one of his most famous dance moves. However, did you know that the singer actually patented the "anti-gravity shoes", which helped him pull off the move? The boots, which he worked on with Michael L. Bush and Dennis Tompkins, had a "specially designed heel slot", which allowed their owner to "lean forwardly beyond his centre of gravity".

4. A lot of stories about "Wacko Jacko" were nonsense made up by the tabloid press. One of the few stories that was may actually have been true related to his fascination with Joe Merrick - The Elephant Man. He reportedly attempted to buy Merrick's remains from the London Hospital Medical College in the late '80s, claiming to be "a dedicated and devoted collector of art and antiques". He later denied the allegations, but admitted he was a fan of Merrick.

5. One of Jackson's many uncompleted projects was an "acting DVD" with the late Marlon Brando. At a court case in 2006, answerphone messages from Jackson revealed that had been hoping to team up with the Godfather star, whom he described as a "god". It is rumoured that they were going to interview each other on the island of Tahiti for the project.

6. Jackson's big screen credits with 1978's The Wiz and 1988's Moonwalker weren't Jacko's finest hours, but he did at one point have plans to resume his movie career. In 1999 it was confirmed that Jackson was going to take the title role in big-budget thriller about hard-drinking writer Edgar Allan Poe. Sadly, the movie never came to fruition.

7. Jackson may never have won an Oscar, but that wasn't going to stop him owning one. The 'Thriller' singer paid $1.4million at an auction in 1999 for the Gone With The Wind Best Picture gong. A spokesperson said that it had been Jacko's "lifelong desire to own that particular object".

8. Jackson was often criticised by the media for his unusual parenting skills, but one man who did trust the singer was soul music legend Lionel Richie. Alongside producer Quincy Jones, Jackson was made a godfather to Lionel's daughter Nicole.

9. Did you think that Michael's former pet chimp Bubbles was dead? Well, think again! He's spent the last four years at the Centre For Great Apes in Florida. "He's a very sweet and nice chimp, he really is," according to sanctuary director Patti Ragan.

10. He may have been the King Of Pop, but Jackson's last notable live appearance was a bit of a flop. Fans paid up to £500 to see him at the World Music Awards at Earl's Court in 2006 after reports circulated about him performing 'Thriller'. When he only came on for a quick cameo and a couple of lines of 'We Are The World', even Jacko's loyal fanbase responded with some clearly audible boos.

Showbiz Strops!

This week really has been the week for showbiz strops, what with little Hollie Steel having a tantrum on Britain's Got Talent because she was told she couldn't sing again in the semi-finals after she messed up!

Even funnier though was Eminem storming out of the MTV Movie Awards after Sasha Baron Cohen landed head-first in his lap. The comedian - dressed as his character Bruno - was lowered from the ceiling, with his bare behind ending up in the rapper's face.

If you haven't seen it yet, here it is.....

Talent

Ever since watching the Olympics back in the summer, I've longed to have a talent!

I watched the games in sheer awe at both the physical and mental strength and stamina. I felt so proud to be British watching Team GB pick up medal after medal and I can't imagine how proud they felt at their achievements.

And it got me thinking......I want to be good at something! Yeah I'm quite good at pool, not bad at cooking and alright at pub quizzes. But I'm not going to be remembered for those am I?

Fia Tarrant felt the same as me and came up with the idea of setting a new world record............at simultaneous space hopping! (Only Fia!)

Although I'm sure it would be great fun, it's hardly a talent is it? Anyway, my desire to have a talent was starting to wane UNTIL I went to see Riverdance at the Bristol Hippodrome last week.

I was blown away! Now THAT is talent! So here I am again looking for something I can learn and be good at. I thought maybe kickboxing, but apparently I'm too short! So, what about learning how to play the piano? No, my fingers aren't long enough!

So if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear from you. Email me at mel.bloor@reading107fm.com.

In the meantime, check this out for talent. Naturally 7 are an acapella act so no instruments are played in this song!

Exercise Schmexercise

Until recently I think I must have been THE most unfit person in Reading. I couldn't have even run up the stairs without getting out of breath!

I've tried going to the gym so many times before but have always given up a few weeks into it.

In November I got asked to take part in the Santa Jog in Prospect Park to help raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Actually, if I remember correctly I wasn't asked at all...I was told I was doing it by my boss!

Being so unfit I was reluctant to agree but Fia promised to help me and go running with me, so I said yes.

With her help and the help of a personal trainer, I successfully completed the 2k run without stopping and what's more really enjoyed it! It was the most amazing feeling to have accomplished something which I had previously thought was impossible.

I have kept up my running and yesterday upped my distance and completed a 3k run without stopping. Now, I'm thinking about running the Reading Half Marathon next year!

So anyway, my point is you really CAN achieve something you might think is impossible if you set your mind to it and exercise CAN be fun, so give it a go!

PS, if you don't like running, I hear pole dancing can be good for you too, or maybe not....

Blog 'Virgin'

When my boss asked me to start a blog I wasn't so sure - a) I've never done one before and b) I can't see why anyone would be in the least bit interested!

Anyhoo, I'm doing as I'm told and will try to make it as interesting/entertaining as possible!

So being a newsreader, for my first blog I thought I would make it news related. Ever since I started reading the news I've had various recurring nightmares about everything going wrong and not being able to read my bulletin. It's never happened I hasten to add. Shame the same can't be said about Tasmin Lucia Khan. Her BBC 3 60 seconds news had to be pulled because she was out of breath after running into the studio late!

Poor love!
